Control Systems and Instrumentation
George Dadd

With a background in Medical engineering, George, 28, met the Sail rocket team in 2004 and promptly took a sharp career change. Seven years on, he has Studied Maritime Engineering at Southampton University and gained valuable experience in composite design and in wind engineering. He is soon to complete his doctorate in Kite Dynamics for Ship Propulsion and high speed sailing.

During Sailrocket’s 2009 record runs in Namibia George offered support to the VSR team on instrumentation, analysis and on the re-design and build of the final control system. He has continued to play a significant role in the design of the new mark II speed sailing machine to the present day.

On joining the Team, George says: "For my own aspirations in engineering, this one has completely nailed it! Being involved in the cutting edge developments of speed sailing is more exciting than I could have ever imagined. The Vestas SailRocket team has been truly inspirational."

George has been a key member of the design team for the new boat doing extensive CAD modeling. He has been pushed quite hard by all of us as the whole design process took a lot more out of us than was expected. He is a big asset to the team and I have no doubt that the experience will serve him well in future endeavors.
